Need some help with the action

Sign in to disble this ad
I had pretty high action for a while now on my Fender Jazz Marcus Miller, but i find it difficult to play so i lowered the action a bit and it helped alot. But i noticed the E string is set to high and the G string is set to low. I am right?

The distance from the fretboard should be the same for all stings. Use a steel rule to measure the distance between the fret and the underside of the string. Also, with this adjustment you have made, comes the need for an intonation adjustment (or at least a check). Your bass probably isn't playing in tune, right now. Check the 12th fret harmonic against the 12th fret note, through a tuner. Odds have it the fretted note is going to be a bit flat.

I think mine is setup as yours.

Don't look at top of the string, look at the distance from the string to the fretboard. Don't forget that usually the A and D strings are supposed to be a bit higher because of the curve in the fretboard.

Thanks for the advice, but i also noticed another problem.
Since you need to screw down two screws, i have problems with the right balance of two screws. I don't think the balance is right on the bridge of each string.
Which is the best way to make it right?

Thanks

Adjust them so that they are equal. What's the problem?

It was kinda hard to see if they were equal with the pickup guard, but i removed it and now it sounds much better. No fretbuzz whatsoever. Thanks.
