I don't know what thread he uses for his basses, but it seems crazy to expect you to ship the bass from Indiana for a part that weighs less than an ounce and costs less than a dollar! He has a reputation for being a really nice guy. I just can't imagine he wouldn't send you the part - even if he gives you the "Well, I can't be held responsible unless I do the work...." speech.
Hope it works out-

I have a bit of mechanical design experience (actually alot) and the standard proceedure is to use a softer nut then rod so the nut strips before the rod thread is damaged. Knowing Michael a bit, I am sure this is what he has done even if this is his older design. Michael's truss rods are arguably the best out there. Carefully remove the nut and take another photo, email the photos and talk to Michael. If you can't get the nut off then send the bass in. There are a number of tricks (some risky) to get a difficult nut off. Michael would know best since he designed and built the bass. Pedulla's are worth the shipping. Be patient and get the nut that is specifically designed for this bass when Michael get's back. Don't risk it!
Is this the white MVP series II you have for sale?
Oops, looked closer. It's the hex part that's stripped, not the thread. Same thing anyway.

Some tips on how to remove the nut:
Carefully flex the neck by hand to remove tension on the rod and see if the wrench works.
There may be room to grip the nut with some needle nose vice grips. Be careful not to damage the wood.
Risky, but a small chisel and hammer may rotate the nut off. Be careful.
Even more risky... Brass is brittle. Grind a groove with a dremel on the nut's side (don't hit the threads) and snap the nut in two twisting with a screwdriver blade in the groove.
Hope it works out for you.
