Just received a Dean Fretless Acoustic Bass Guitar, and the actions seems low. It has stock roundwounds on it and I am planning on putting tapewounds on I like the tone and I want to save the fingerboard.
How do I raise the actions? The one I played in the store had a super high action, so I thought I would have to bring this one down, however, the strings are so low they're touching the board in first position.
Any help is greatly appreciated! |

If it's the standard acoustic style bridge with a single piece of plastic as a saddle, you can buy saddle material from Stew-Mac and make a replacement. If you do this, don't modify the original - keep it for reference.

Also, when I push down on the e string at the first fret and also press down on the 15th fret of the same string there is no space between the board and the string. Does the truss rod possibly need adjustment?
I went to the Stew-Mac site, and they only show 6 string guitar saddles, would those work for the ABG? |

Nobody at the store checked it out, before you took possession? |

Nobody at the store checked it out, before you took possession? | Really stupid question, I know to give the neck relief that I need to loosen the truss rod. And the Stew Mac sight says turn the nut to the left. Which way is left? The rod is inside the body under the last of the fretboard. Is left as I am looking at the rod or away? I don't want to strip the nut, but I have also never done a rod adjustment myself.
I mail ordered the bass, I played a fretted model at the store, but they said I would have to special order the model I wanted. So to save shipping to my house, as well as state sales tax I ordered off the internet. Probably wouldn't have done with a more expensive bass, however since I only plan on using this at home, and had played the same model in the store sans frets, I felt comfortable doing so. |
