new bass with crack

i just bought this bass sr 506 from a website very happy with it but i found a crack on th e back of the neck near the nut. its pretty small but about 3 inches long. doesnt appear to be getting any bigger it follows the grain just wondering is this normal for a wood natural finish on wood or is it a problem and should i send it back

I'd send it back. It may not seem very troublesome, but god forbid you try to set the truss rod, you run the risk of snapping the neck.

Yeah...if it was a body crack, it'd be a different story...but in the neck, you don't want to mess around. Besides, you paid good money for something that was supposed to be flawless!
