New bass questions: repairs

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings.

Have a new acquisition with a few minor issues, and hope for your help in taking care of them.

Issue uno:

It has a Badass bridge, original style. I understand there was some body mod work required to get this to work on the bass. Any idea what kind of work would be typical for this, and how much work would be needed to replace the original vintage bridge?

Issue 2:

Previous owner had apparently installed and then re-installed a thumbrest, leaving 6 screw holes in the body, which is ash. Think hippie re-fin natural ash.
The holes vary- 2 are pretty clean, typically sized thumbrest screw holes, while the other 4 are the same size, just rougher and a little dirty.
Any suggestions for a fairly unobtrusive fill? Again, re-fin ash.

Thanks to all!

wraub

What kind of bass? If the badass was a replacement could be any number of things from extra screw holes to recessing. PICS might help in determining this. As for the holes, get some scrap ash, cut out some tapered plugs, sand to proper shape, and match to grain where hole is, then glue into hole and tap to close to flush. Sand smooth. You can open the holes up with a slightly larger drill bit to clean the hole, and plug appropiately.
