New Bridge on an Aerodyne Jazz?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass and i'm curious if I can replace the bridge. I noticed that there is a little cutout in the body so the stock fender bridge sits flush. I was hoping to install a BAII but I don't know if this will be possible due to the cutout in the body. Would it be a good idea to put a piece of wood in the cutout and then putting a new bridge on top of that?
Or are there any other bridges that have the base dimensions of a stock Fender bridge?
Thanks in advance.

I JUST did this mod, and the recessed bridge thing is no problem. The ground wire is, though. I just jammed the wire into one of the old screw holes. The BAII fits into the srew holes perfectly, and the indented rectangle thing is no issue. I was a bit weary, but decided to just try. No complains, the bass plays alot easier now.

Which colour did you have for BAII? I've installed a hipshot detuner and I had the black one. As the Aerodyne has smoke chrome, the black was the closest one.
I'll probably go with BAII too, after reading that you can install it without making any modification (I had to drill some holes on headstock to install the detuner though)

Hello,

The Badass II bridge has a much larger footprint than the standard bridge that comes on the Aerodyne. The new Badass III is much closer, but you still may need to increase the size of the flat spot on the top of the guitar. I am not aware of any other specific bridges that will retrofit without modification.

Best regards-
