New Bridge + New strings = buzzing?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey All,
I recently put a Badass II bridge and new DR Sunbeams on my Squier P bass. In the meantime, the nut broke, so I had that replaced. After setting it up, and checking the action, I am getting a really nasty buzz on the 6th fret of the E string, and 10th and 11th of the A string. D and G seem fine.

This buzzing isn't noticed when amplified but I can still hear it myself. After trying to find where it was coming from, it sounded as though it was in the neck.

Would it be possible that the truss rod is vibrating or broken?
And, its the first time I have used sunbeams, would they be contributing?

I am only an amatuer at setup so help would be appreciated.

Ahhh. After searching around, and a bit of playing around I have worked it out. Its the nut!
The new nut is not shaped deep enough for the E and A stings and is causing the rattle/buzz.
