New fretboard or new neck?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an 88 Squier jazz that had that epoxy defretting job done on it. It now has no relief and the truss rod is no longer adjustable (no surprise there) and the action is way too high above the 8th fret.

I want to keep it fretless. Am I better of getting a new fretboard put on or a new neck?

If the finger board is fine, and the truss rod is the only problem, you probably wont need a new neck.

There are a couple of methods of getting the truss rod to work again. One is to introduce a washer (or several) under the truss rod nut, which allows more adjustment. Another is to undo the truss rod nut clamp or have a friend bend the neck into a back bow, then re tighten the nut while its in a bent position. I used the second method just a couple of months back and it worked wonders.

There should be plenty of help on here, type truss rod out of adjustment into the search box. There are a couple of threads on it.

"No relief....... and the action is too high....."
These terms are rarely seen in the same sentence. No relief means flat, and flat usually means low action. Maybe you need to shim (tilt) the neck?

My bad, I probably meant too much relief. I'll search for truss rod adjustments and see what I get.

Thanks.

Thats what I thought you meant, here is a link to something that may help shimming a truss rod nut.
