I just replaced the neck on my P bass.
The factory (rosewood fb) neck recently developed a bad up-bow and I popped the truss rod trying to get it flat enough to be playable. Doh!
So I bought a maple Mighty Mite neck and just finished installing it.
This neck is much better than the factory neck.
The finish is about the same, except that it still has that new satin feel.
It is a couple of ounces heaver than the original, but not noticeable now that it is installed.
Strung to pitch the neck had only a slight bow and needed only about a quarter turn on the truss rod nut to bring it to the proper relief.
It fit snugly in the neck pocket. The factory neck was not snug.
The nut needed a bit of fitting even for the regular light gauge Chromes I put on it, but I'd rather have to widen the slots than have them too large.
The fretwork is excellent; nice and even all the way down the neck. There is no fall-off at the heel, but it plays with low action and no buzz all the way up, so no problem there. The fret ends felt a bit grabby for my taste so I hit them with a little sandpaper for a smoother feel.
I would hesitate to call it a dead-spot, but there is a slight muffling on the G string in the 5-7 fret area. The factory neck had a bad dead spot at the 6th fret on the G string.
The tuning machine ferrules went in firmly but without trouble.
I used the truss rod nut off the factory neck because the one it came with uses a different size than my Fender truss rod tool (which makes adjustments a breeze).
Overall the bass plays much better than it ever did with the factory neck, even before it began to have problems.
If you are considering a new neck I don't think you can beat Mighty Mite, especially for the price.
