New Nut for Warwick, JaN I or JaNIII

Sign in to disble this ad
The Just-a-Nut II recently broke on my Warwick Thumb. Both clips had broken and one of the little set screws stripped out so that the nut would sink all the way down on one side. I'm going to order a new nut, but am a little undecided on which one to get.
From what I've read both JaN 1 & 3 work fine, but 1 is brass and 3 is some graphite composite. I'm leaning towards getting a 1 for hopefully a little better tone, but just was wondering if anyone had any experience with either/both of these nuts. I also know that the 1 can't be moved without loosening/removing the strings, this isn't really an issue with me. I'm not prone to changing the nut height on the fly.

Well, the JAN I is brass, so it's pretty easy to pick out of the bunch.

There's not much need to adjust the string height once you have it where you want it, so I never got the deal with the follow-up versions...

I'm leaning towards the brass, I've read good things about it. But I was hoping someone had a little firsthand experience with these.

I've had both the JANI and JANII nuts on a pair of SSI 5 strings that I had.

The only downside I found with the brass JAN1 was that there was occasionally a slight rattle coming from it. Not a big deal when playing through an amp, but unplugged, you could hear it.
