Heavens, yes. If things look "funny", chances are you're right. BTW, the .022 (1st fret) reference doesn't really help. Stop all tweaks...let's find out where we are now
*Visually inspect the nut slots vacant and with the strings in place (tuned to pitch). They should sit comfortably in the "U" with no gaps, no binding, and following the contour towards the tuners. Scrap setting intonation...that comes later.
*Set witness points by pressing the string down firmly on the leading (fingerboard) aspect. This also applies to the bridge.
*Depress any string directly onto the 3rd fret. The gap between the string and 1st fret should be .003-.005" via feeler gauge.
Get back to us and we'll go from there. I'll make the fatal assumption that relief is set correctly.
