I've followed all the manufacturers recommendations and instruction fro cleaning and maintaining the maple neck . FB on my 10 month old EBMMSR5. The FB looks grey and and very old and worn.

Can a professional help?

Any recommendations?

Can you give us some pics? Maybe some closeups?

This may be a warranty issue.

I suggest you post a question over on the EBMM forums - I suspect you can get some good tips that are specific to the finish MM uses there.

I've always heard Simple Green is the thing to use, but you may be having other issues.

This must be a problem with all maple board EBMM's. I've noticed the fretboard being grey on a lot of used models. Pictures of EVH's Musicman guitars show a darkening of the fretboard also.

Musicman necks get better with time, but in my experience they dont grey, they just get a golden , darker color. If yours is truely grey, it could be the way that your sweat reacts with the finish, or that you have dirty hands.

The graying means that the finish is wearing through to the raw wood. If it's a fretted bass, your technique may be the root of the problem. Ideally, the string shouldn't touch the fretboard, only the frets. If the string is contacting the fretboard, you're pressing too hard. Try a lighter touch with your left (i.e. fretting) hand.
