Noise problem w/ EADGC

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so i set my MTD 5 string up EADGC & i am having some really strange noise issues. It sounds like i have effects on (shooting lasers or something) & the higher on the neck i go the worse it gets. but it even occurs on the low E.

i fixed the setup to remove all of the fret buzz.
i checked my my intonation & it is pretty close.

now i did use DR long neck strings instead of my usual low riders but i doubt it would make that much of a difference.
Has anyone dealt with anything like this?????????
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

It could be one of several factors. My first thought is that you're fretting out in the upper registers, and you may need to adjust your setup. It's also possible that your pickups are too close to the strings and are effecting the strings vibration from too much magnetic pull. I assume that you didn't experience this problem before you switched tunings? Methinks the most likely culprit is a combination of your neck shifting (due to the change in tension), and your bridge needs to be compensated for the smaller strings.

the problem is that i have fixed my bridge & i am not fretting out & the neck is almost perfect. the noise is not like fret buzz, it's like star wars.

i think you might be onto something with the magnetics though. but i did fix the action so it is about the same height as before, maybe not excact but darn close. on a previous occasion i had lowered the pickups because the G string was too close & it was really loud but it did not give me the tones i am getting now.

so i took off the long neck strings and put on new low riders & all of the weird noises are GONE!

so what would make the strings do that?
