nut filing?

Sign in to disble this ad
The e string popping off the nut has been a reacurring problem with my reggie hamilton jazz and I was wondering if I should file down the nut or look into getting it replaced. I don't think it could be filed too much lower and even with the guage strings I'm using (.45, .60, .80, .100) the nut only covers about half of the lowest string.

Most of the time when this happens it is because the string is not properly wound onto the peg. The wraps should start at the top of the peg and go the whole way down to the headstock. It may require a new string. That will take care of the problem almost every time.
