| Nut issues with my new (to me) Warwick

My new to me Warwick Corvette Standard 5 finally got here today. I got a sweet deal on it, but like many sweet deals there's a caveat. Some finish problems that I knew about, but the PO clearly knew nothing about maintenance. Unplayably low action (buzzing in every position except the G string), pup's adjusted all the way up with no screw tension (surprised the screws didn't fall out), bridge flopping b/c the locking screws weren't tightened down, etc.
Anyway, the biggest problem is the nut. The PO seems to have disassembled the "Just-A-Nut," gotten rid of the base and screws and super glued or epoxied the part with the string courses down to a hardwood shim. The nut, as it sits now, is WAY too low, the B and E string are buzzing badly on the first fret when played open. I've got two questions: 1) any helpful hints on getting the old nut out? 2) Should I cut a new bone/Tusqs nut, or get a new "Just-A-Nut"? I'm leaning towards cutting a new one b/c I've done it before (with acoustic guitars anyway), and that way I could be playing it tomorrow or sunday rather than waiting to order a new one... any compelling reasons to go one way or the other?
