Nut problems?

Sign in to disble this ad
So, yeah, like the title says, I' having a bit of trouble with my nut (yeah, laugh it up). I think it might be cut too wide, so the strings are vibrating in place. It's particularly noticeable on the E and A strings, and before you ask, I have them wound with about as much of a... angle break?- as possible. 'Tis also my second set of strings to, and both had the same problem. This set even has thicker strings (.105-.50), which I thought might solve the issue, but it didn't. Any ideas on what I could do? Or am I gonna have to replace the nut? If so, any advice?

wear a cup next time. sorry i couldnt resist chopping that up. cheap fix is fold duct tape and put it under ur strings where the nut is. if that doesnt fix it then its not the nut.

105 is not exceptionally wide. 115+ is starting to get wide. Because of the angle break and assuming you are not using a dropped tuning, the possibility is that you MAY have a wide surface as well as a wide cut.
Buy another nut and replace or buy a 115 or 120 and a 100 for your E & A.
