Nut questions (Squier VM content)

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm set to replace the stock plastic nut on my first year production (2006) fretted Squier VM bass with one of these:

http://www.allparts.com/store/nuts-s...0g,Product.asp (anyone have any experience with these?)

Would anyone happen to know if the radius of the Squier's neck in the nut position would match the radius of this replacement nut? I ask this because I've heard that SX necks are pretty much flat in the nut area & I'm curious if it's the same deal with Indonesian Squiers...

Plus, would any mods have to be made to this nut (shimming or filing for string and/or overall height)?

Thanks in advance for any & all help!

I got a similar nut (Micarta brand) time ago for my Fender MIM pbass, the radius was the same (9.5 degrees, IIRC) but I found that the grooves were too high (of course this can vary in function of the bass). I tried to file them, but I didn't had the appropriate files and the output was so bad that I ended restoring the original nut.

I have seen luthier files (U shaped) around $70 plus shipping... this is something that I can't afford right now. Does somebody where can I get some economic nut files (preferably in Europe, although I can order from the USA).

Thanks.
