Oiling help

Sign in to disble this ad
When I change strings I do it one at the time to avoid to much difference in tension. I will do some cleaning, oiling of the freetboard so I must remove all the strings. Can it harm neck in any way ?

Thanks !

I do this when I need to oil the board on any of my instruments. Just don't leave the strings off for too long and you should be fine.

I've left strings off for weeks at a time without problems.

Could just be me.

Regardless, no, this will not harm anything on your bass in any way.

I don't like doing it either, but its pretty much a given to do the cleaning/oiling right. Try to avoid temp/humidity changes and after you string it back up and tune it to pitch, don't mess with it for a few hours, minimum, while the neck acclimates itself to the tension. Thats my routine anyway...
