Old El Capitan ABG - fret buzz at 11th fret on G string

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an old el Capitan ABG.

Fret Buzz occurs at the 11th Fret on the G-string.

Currently strung with flat wounds, but buzz existed when it had med round wounds. (same spot)

Buzz does not occur anywhere else.

I'm seeing string contact with fret 12 when playing at 11th.

Is fret 12 mishapened?

Does neck need a tweak?

any ideas?

need a small "straight edge" that will just go over frets 11,12 & 13. check to see if #12 is higher than the others.

I will do that when I get home.

If one of the following frets is higher, what is my remedy?

Do I file it down to par with the other frets? (never tried this and since this bass is a "beater" I won't have a problem doing it myself).

I also considered defretting this bass for the heck of it.

Yeah, thats it, and then polish out the scratches with sandpaper 150 then 220 and 500 should do it. and masking tape between the frets will keep the file away from the wood.
