Open low E sounds thin

Hi

I have a Cort Performer Series with a PJ pickup configuration.

The issue is that the open E string sounds weak and thin compared to the other open strings and fretted notes on the E string. To be more specific the tone sounds like it has a slight chorus or phaser effect as the note rings. It's not as thick and punchy as the fretted low F or G note.

Each pickup has it's own volume control and this effect can be heard when soloing each pickup. Furthermore I have tried Ernie Ball roundwounds and Fender flatwounds and got the same thing.

Is this familiar to anyone, any suggestions?

thanks

Sounds like the string might be too far away from the pickup. Also make sure your E-string nutslot is tight.

thanks.

could be the latter then. a friend of mine filed the slot a bit deeper to lower the action. it looks like a nice job though.

if the pickup was too far away then I suppose the fretted notes on the E string would also be weak, which they aren't.
