Says when pressing the string at the last fret, bottom of the string to the top of the pole pieces should be 3.6mm on the E, and 2.4mm on the G.
Reducing the distance between string and pickups increases the magnetic pull on the strings and gives a hotter signal. Too much can make it sound like crap, though. Increasing the distance reduces output and puts more emphasis on the fundamental. (And rounding out the tone somewhat.)
