Order of Assembly?

Sign in to disble this ad
OK! So I am way behind on my little project bass. I hope this is the right board for this question, seeing its kinda of broad.

Im a novice when it comes to refinishing / upgrading an existing bass. But I've stripped the paint and removed all of the hardware (gross) so now I just have the bass (thru neck) and de-fretted the fingerboard but not epoxied yet. What is the order I do everything in.

I have to get all the electronics, bridge, tuners, pots, knobs you name it I will be putting new in. Its a passive p style with two pickups. But do I finish the fretboard, then poly the body/back of neck, then sheild, the electronics etc. just a little helping hand to get me on the right path.

I'd tend to the neck first. I like a satin polyurethane for the back of the neck on anything but a one-piece maple neck. Once it's finished, I'd mask it off and work on the body. Prep the body for the new hardware. ALL of it(pickups, everything). Do all the tweaks ya need to fit everything, then finish the body. Once yer satisfied with the finish of the whole instrument, build it back up with the hardware, etc. Post some pix, too.
