Angry Out-put/jack plate problem.

Sign in to disble this ad
The out-put jack on my bass never stays tight. Every time I play I have to fix the stupid thing because it gets loose. Is there any way to get the bolt on the jack to stay tight?

I'm sure a lot of people have this same problem.

you can use some loctite or other thread-locking juice, as well as one of those locking washers to help keep everything in place.

I did tighten it from the inside on a guitar and still had the same issue.

It sure would help if you guys would specify what KIND of bass. There are a lot of different output configurations.

But generally - find out what's loose, then tighten it. If it's metal to metal and you don't want it working loose again, use clear nail polish or blue Loctite to secure it.

This configuration works pretty well for me:

On the outside of the bass (where you plug in):

Stack a nut on top of a washer.

On the inside of the bass:

Stack a nut on top of a washer on top of a lockwasher (so that the lock washer is pressed up against the jackplate).

Also, make sure you have the exact right size nut for the output jack's threads. Sometimes if you use metric with standard and vice-versa you will get chronic output jack loosening.

Pilgrim's loctite and nail polish ideas are pretty good too.
