Unhappy Over-thinking this minor "fix"?? HELP I'm a dope.

The repair forum is pretty desolate...

I have an Epi T-Bird. The gent I bought if from took the top strap holder/peg thing and fastened it on one of the four bolts on the neck. Neat idea, but I would lke it back on the top of the body where it belongs.

Herein lies my anxiety. How tight do I make the bolt? I need to remove it to get the strap holder - of course three will still be in tact and untouched.

Yes, I am a worry-wart. Just nervous messing with those bolts.

do you mean how tight do you screw the screw back in? as tight as it will go without hurting yourself or the bass i guess. if the other 3 screws are in, you're not going to have to worry while the other one is replaced.

some things to keep in mind:

--make sure the screw he used was the original screw and not one that is longer to accommodate the strap pin. just check the length to make sure it's the right length.
--just be careful to use the right screwdriver size and pressure so you don't end up stripping the screw.
--when you screw it back it, i find it easier to start by lightly turning in the opposite direction first to get it in the groove. otherwise, you might create new grooves which may cause problems if done repeatedly.

To my knowledge, the strap holder is a washer-type funnel that the screw fits in. The original strap holder screw was replaced back in the top of the body, so he used one of the neck bolts - it apparently has the same inner diameter. So I just have to remove the bolt, slip off the "washer" and replace to it's original spot/screw.

I am just nervous to mess with the bolt, but it makes sense that if three are secured, it makes it easier and not as manic messing with one.

Thanks!!

seems like everyone who has an EPI does the same thing including mine. adding another strap pin to the neckplate screw to counteract the neckdive.

TOAD said it perfectly......

The neckdive was never an issue for me, or I guess a bother for me, but was for the person who had the bass pre-me. But with the move to the neckplate, the body dumps forward, as opposed to neckdiving....

My "not wanting to touch the bolt" solution: Getting straplocks and leaving the moved one, well moved.

If you're really worried about the neck exploding when you take the bolt out... Why not just take the tension off the strings beforehand?
