GENERIC RECOMMENDATION: Play it. They're fine.

If you don't like it down the road, then change what YOU feel needs to be changed.

I only changed what I felt needed to be changed, but I am a bit special (at least some people say that).

I put in some new pups, Nordstrand J5's and an Aguilar OBP3. That did it for me. Great crafting on the neck and body. Lovely bass. Wish I had it down here.

Added: I should maybe say that it was a MIA Deluxe.

Well.. even thou essentially I do agree with Tplyons and Josuha, I've found from 1st hand experience that MIM Fender Jazz basses always require some semi-serious set-up. Not upgrades, not differant necks.. merely a good, through set-up. There always seems to be too much relief in the neck, and the saddles can also be made to sit better.

Also does not hurt to carefully check the solder points at the input jack either.

After from doing a good setup, PLAY IT. I don't believe that any bass should be modified before you play it and learn what it can do.

Most Fender basses are exactly what they are supposed to be out of the box. Unless there's a problem, IMO you won't need to change or modify anything. You might decide to change pickguards or add covers to change the look.

I don't understand why people feel the need to 'change' basses that they haven't even played yet. It makes no sense.

My Precision is stock and perfect.
