Overpowering B String

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently got myself an Ibanez SRX505 as a backup bass. The B-string tends to click over the pickup, especially if I dig in just a little bit. My question is after I replace the stock strings and this still happens will lowering the pickup a bit work and will that take away from the balanced sound of the strings?

Thanks,
Dan

Update

I changed the strings and it made a significant difference. Now I only get that clipping the pickup sound if I go a bit hard on the open B. I'm thinking that lowering the pickup a half turn on the B side may help. Thoughts?

It might cause a lower output on that string, but try it anyway. The worst that can happen is you have to lower both sides or raise it back up.
