Ozidized musicman hardware?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a semi new music man sterling (2001) and all it's stuff is oxidized. I also have a friend whose kinda new SUB has oxidized parts.

The tuners, the pickup and the bridge.

Whats up with this? Is it like this with all musicmen(mans)?

I'll try to find some pics showing this

Thanks

That might work

Blurry but it does show the oxidization on the saddles.

It's probably because of the humidity in your place. This is also what happened to the hardware of my Bongo 5. you can just clean it up with some metal polish and it'll be like new again.

I dunno, I had a Stingray for 10 years or so, in Memphis, which is pretty humid by U.S. standards, and I never had that issue. I wasn't the first owner either.

I'm the second owner. And it's almost always 100% humidity here

I tried silver tarnish crap on the tuners but it didn't work.

Try some metal polish instead of that silver tarnish crap.

This works very well on all the "old bass" hardware I've run into UNLESS you have rust pitting. Then it will become shiny pits.

Examples:
Sold a bunch of 1964 Gibson Thunderbird parts that had been "spares" in the parts box for decades. Cleaned up nicely.

Got a Greco LP bass-clone that has 3 Greco Thunderbird pickups in it. A layer of gunk covered all of them. Now they look almost new except for marks from roundwounds hitting them(in spots).

Do you live near the ocean? Could be corrosion from salt.
