| | | | The actual removal of the pickguard from the bass is easy but realize the replacement pickguard might not be exactly the same as the original pickguard. This can become more of a project than first assumed.
This can be a real grey area, even assuming your P-Bass is an authentic Fender bass and replacement pickguard is authentic from Fender. The plot further thickens depending on if your P-Bass is a copy from another company or if the replacement pickguard is from an aftermarket source (even if officially "Fender licensed").
Best advice is to take yor bass to a store and buy the pickguard in person to make sure of proper fit, including the holes. If buying site unseen from the internet, assume the replacement pickguard might not be quite the expected color , not physically fit smoothly onto the bass, and the holes not line up with the existing holes ---- meaning the edges of the pickguard would have to be grinded to fit by your dremel tool , the existing holes filled in with epoxy glue, and new holes drilled into the wood to line up with the new pickguard.
All of this takes patience. Be prepared for complications and also be prepared to buy a second replacement pickguard if for some reason ruining the first one during customizing.
This can be a fun project, but do not go into it expecting a simple "take off and put on" 20 minute process. That would be a low probability. Possible but not probable. |
