P Bass Cover Screws...

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, my 57 reissue did not come with the covers when I bought it back the the 80's.

I had no idea back then it was supposed to.

I am going to buy the covers for the pick up and bridge, and I keep seeing Fender does not put the screws in with them.

Now, I can go to the hardware store...no biggie.

My question is what are the screws that are supposed to be with them like?

Are they the same as pickguard screws? What head are they supposed to have? Tapered?

I do not have the bass in my possession at the moment to look at it.

I think I remember the holes were already in the body and in the pickguard.

I saw fender sells bags of screws, I don't mind getting a bag if they are the "right ones."

My local hardware store has very low grade stuff and the chrome screws are not real nice (if they even have them in the right size).

When I am working on my car I go to the chrome nut and bolt guys at swap meets and such for better quality chrome and stainless.

I searched some threads but did not see anything where anybody discussed threads, heads, and chrome on parts.

Yeah, I know...sweating the details.

Thanks.

Genuine fender one's should come with screws, but I think you can use the pickguard screws in a pinch.

Based upon my '66 P and also something I've read recently about the subject, pickguard screws are correct.

From what I was reading on Musicians Friend and another site the Fender ones do not come with screws.

You can get the Genuine Fender screws here: http://www.basspartsresource.com/bhardware_ashtrays.htm

They are down on the right.

I just put a pickup cover on my bass.
I used the screws from the pick guard of a telecaster. They were the exact same as the pick guard on my P bass and everything fit perfectly.

And my pickup cover did not come with the screws.

They are the same as pickguard screws: #4 and are 1/2" long
You need 4. Let me know your address and I'll send them, no charge.
