Question P bass E string

Sign in to disble this ad
My E string on my 1976 Precision seems way loud. She is all stock. I have the pickup cranked down under the E to almost flush with the pickguard. I thought it might be the strings so pulled my 15 year old set off and put on some new ones. Any thoughts?

I had the opposite problem w/my '98 P... the E-string was weak no matter what. I installed a Lindy Fralin replacement pickup. Problem solved, and then some. ...not sure the logic works, but have you considered other pickups? ...have you tried different string brands and types first?

I just put a new set of D Addario round wound on today. I thought that would help. I guess I will check out a pickup.

If the wire that connects the two coils is long enough you could rotate the E/A coil 180 degrees and see how the string volumes are. If you do, make sure to accurately measure the pole-to-sting distances and adjust the pickup so it's the same distance away from the strings.

Maybe the magnets aren't the same strength.
