P-bass pickup cover dimensions?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a strange question... I have a p-bass chrome pickup cover and the distance between the two screw holes is a bit over 4.75" centre-to-centre. I also have an offical Fender anodised P-bass pickguard with the holes for the pickup cover, but the holes are exactly 4.5" centre-to-centre.

Now I'm guessing that the cover I have has been "flattened" a bit to make it wider, and a bit of careful re-bending will bring it back to the 4.5" screw hole width, although I must say it "looks" right the way it is.

On the other hand, I wondered if perhaps there were a couple of different sizes of pickup cover over the years?

(I hope I've put this in the right forum: apologies if not)

I've had the came experience. Just screw in one side and bend the other side till the hole lines up. I don't know if it's an oversight by the makers of the cover but it's perfectly fine.

Cheers - thanks for that. I've just had a stab at very gently reshaping it over a tin can so it remained even. Looks like I'm good to go now.
