P-Bass setup (pup screws)

Sign in to disble this ad
This may have been covered before...

I have a CIJ P-bass. I've screwed the pups down pretty far but I need to get them down farther. I can push down on the pups and there is visible room to screw down even more but it is VERY difficult to turn the screw.
Do I need to get shorter screws? drill into the body?

There should be foam strips under the pickups. These are preventin gyou from lowering them any further. Remove or thin down the foam and you should be able to get them lower.

I understand what you're saying about the foam but did you see that I said I could actually push the covers down? Is the foam interfering w/the screws?

Ah, most likely the pilot holes weren't drilled deep enough.
There's a good chance you'll strip the heads trying to get it down because they apparently make pickup screws with some form of butter.

You can drill them deeper. Personally I would do it by hand (i.e. twist the drill bit in your fingers) it's time consuming to say the least, but mistakes are highly unlikely. Of course you can go the power tool route, but be careful not to drill through the body

You can set the drill bit depth so it is less than the depth of the bass.
