P Bass A string nut vibration

Sign in to disble this ad
The title says it all. This happens only when playing open A.

It happens no with several different roundwound brands.

The vibration really kills the sustain on the open A.

If I press lightly on the string just behind the nut, the problem is completely solved.

Anyone know what 's causing this or how to fix it more permanently?

Make sure the strings are wound down the post on the tuner. Get the A string as close to the bottom of the post as possible. This will set a good break angle over the nut and hold the strings down in the nut.

Do a search for "break angle" and you'll get a lot of good info.
