Paint and stuff

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so I picked up a used bass with the intent to sand it down and repaint it.

As I have never attempted anything like this I look to the TB for assistance.

First the sanding, what paper grits should I progress through as I sand off all the old paint.

Second, what kind of paint do you recommend using? and why?

Third after painting what would you use to seal it and why?

thanks

Forget sanding, use a furniture fish stripper, unless you have a year to waste. I'm exaggerating. Stripper is much easier and it won't gauge the wood. You fine sand it once down to the wood. I'll let someone else suggest finishing products and methods, but Stewart Macdonald has everything you need. Oh and Guitar Refinish Ranch (?, Google it.) does too, plus lots of tutorials.

PLEASE don't just post without doing any homework. There are plenty of threads here describing the process.

Don't sand, strip the finish - but do your own homework first.
