Painted body + no clear = problem?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, I just picked up a parts bass and the body is finished with several coast of paint but has no clear coat. I think it looks cool, but I'm on the fence about how it feels... still not sure if I want to/should give it a clear coat. Any problems/issues I should be aware of by leaving it painted with no clear? Only thing I could think of is that the paint going to get dinged up and wear down really quickly.

The clear coats provide more protection for the color coats and adds depth to the color. If the clear gets scratched you can add more clear, wet sand and polish it out. If no clear coats, you would have sand smooth, then add more color to repair.

Lon nailed it. If you want fast wear, no clear coat. If you want it to look good for a long time, clear coat.

Your arm may turn the color of the bass. Once you start to swet on it --it may make the paint tacky ( if it's not good paint) and then it can "ball up" in little incriments and just be generally not good-- unless you don't mind.
