| i would use a stain, stewmac and LMII both have a violin stain for evening out the color of ebony.
try that stuff, and just remember, a little bit goes a long way, its VERY concentrated. Since stain penetrates the wood more, unlike paint witch is a coating, even with wear the color will hold up much much better.
