Painting a fingerboard

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to repaint my finger board...black. Or maybe just darken it with a stain. Im just wondering if theres anything i can put overtop of the paint in order to keep the paint/stain from rubbing off?

It shouldn't be an issue since the strings ride on the fretwire. The fretboards on Rics are painted and they hold up great.

I had the fretboard on my Ric 4004 Laredo painted black a month ago and there are no signs of wear after plenty of use.

i would use a stain, stewmac and LMII both have a violin stain for evening out the color of ebony.

try that stuff, and just remember, a little bit goes a long way, its VERY concentrated. Since stain penetrates the wood more, unlike paint witch is a coating, even with wear the color will hold up much much better.
