Painting fret lines on fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
What is the best paint to use for painting fretlines on a fretless? Is there anywhere to get glow-in-the-dark paint for this? Just wondering.....

Thanks in advance!

Unless you plan to epoxy over them, I can't see painted fretlines fairing well against strings & sweaty fingers. The fretlines you see on lined fretless basses are almost always inlaid strips of plastic. However you could paint yourself some extra side markers.

may I suggest that you NOT do this?

I get that fretless is hard - that's why only guys who put the time in can play it well... What I'd have my students who were struggling do was to put tape markers an the side of the neck for each fret - - not on the fingerboard, but on the side of the neck that faces them when they play. Use tape (like a little bit of masking tape or something) so you can pull it off if you sell the bass or no longer need it.

Anything you put on the fingerboard will either interfere with the sound (paint likely will) or be a bear to get off (like a sharpie).
