Painting my strap, suggestions?

Sign in to disble this ad
Not sure if this is the right place, but it looks good

I want to customise my bass a bit and figured id start with a cool strap, just wondered what experience you guys had with painting straps, what material strap i should look for, what type of paint ect.

would simple spray paint and a couple of paper stencils work? or are acrylics the way to go?.

also looking for some cool suggestions for what i should paint on it im into older punk, so thats the sort of style im looking at

You can get fabric paints at your local craft store (Michaels, Jo-Ann's Fabrics, and what have you... I have a friend who is into knitting and dying fabric I swear ).
The labels should state which materials they will work on.

Totally needs a Chuck Taylor Converse emblem on there, maybe a hand throwing the horns.

TheMutt is right about JoAnn's and Michael's having a HUGE selection of VARIOUS types of paint - flexible, washable, glitter, florescent, etc. My band was into decorating our stage clothes with paint and other things at one time.

A possible concern is that many of those paints will eventually crack at the bending points of your strap unless the paint is really worked INTO the fabric. This could be a minor thing, but it's something to be prepared for.

An untreated leather strap decorated with leather dye might get you closer into the permanent masterpiece arena. Is Tandy Leather still in business? They used to have all of that stuff in their catalogs.

Anyway, I suggest you go the the craft/fabric store and browse as the start of your fact finding tour.
