Paranoid

Having recently had an unpleasant experience with a local major vendor's service/repair department, I have gotten a little paranoid. I have a new set of SD Antiquity II J-pups on order, and am intending to get them installed by someone who knows what they are doing--normally I would have taken them to the major local vendor. But now I'm wondering how easy it would be for someone to switch out the coils and replace them with something else.... How do I make sure that what I hand over for installation is what actually gets installed? Do I have to do it myself? I don't want to practice pickup installation with a set of really good pickups....

Man, I'm sorry. You really are paranoid. You've got to do something about that. Whatever you do, don't let them give you drugs. Stop watching television.

Let's be real here-if someone wanted to, when you took your BMW in for service work, they could drop in a little Kia engine and rip you off. It just depends on how honest the dealer is. The Antiquities are nice pickups but do you think there's a lot of this type of crime going on?

Yeah, hope you are right. But it's not as if there aren't a fair number of shady car-repair places either. I guess I'll see if I can find a local luthier to do the job. I was just surprised to get hosed by a supposedly reputable vendor. Certainly won't go back there.

I can't solder to save my life, so I hear you.

Write your initials in the bobins with a Sharpie marker. You can check after they are soldered by unscrewing and removing the covers carefully.

Brilliant. That way you'll know you got the right pickups. And if you're feeling really paranoid some day, all you have to do is remove the pickups and take a look to make sure they're still there.

Actually, I really don't think there's anything much to worry about. I've never heard of it happening although I'm sure it must have at least once in the history of bass pickups. I don't know what the statistics are for Seymour Duncan Antiquities thefts. Pretty low I'd imagine.
