Velcro? Although that would cause the cover to sit a little high offf the PG. I have seen some people say they use double sided tape with good results. I haven't tried either of these. I have no problem with drilling holes in my bass for covers.

It's worth asking. I don't want to drill as I'm afraid it might affect resale value

You could use double-sided foam tape, but it's going to sit around 1/16" off the surface of the instrument.

My opinion is that PROPERLY located and drilled holes on a P don't affect resale, because so many P basses of all vintages have had covers installed and removed.

If the holes are mis-placed or messily drilled, they may detract from value.

Covers do look cool. It's just ironic that all us old fogies removed the covers as they got in the way of our playing.

if you drill holes you can easily cover the holes up with a new pick guard. no one will know there is holes in it unless the take the pickgaurd off

Dissenting opinion:

Originality is everything in the vintage world. If the holes are not supposed to be there it is not "all original." It will absolutely affect the desirability and therefore the value. The older and more desirable the piece the more pronounced the effect on value. If value is important, don't do it.

Don't use a pickup cover.

I bow to 202dy's opinion. He is more up on this than I am. And when JLS votes the same way, I surrender!

You can also use double sided carpet tape - lower than foam tape and very strong. However, you will have to deal with removing the adhesive at some point with either type of tape.

What kind of P-bass are we talking about here. If you've got a Squire P-bass, then by all means, no amount of hacking, drilling whatever is going to affect the resale on that puppy. But if we're talking mint 60's-era Fender, why are you asking this again?

its a 50s Fender Pbass reissue and im worried because it has the holes in the pickguard so if i took the ocvers off they'd be clearly visible and if i put a new pickguard on it wont be an andonized one

+1 on the carpet tape suggestion.

It'll work fine, however heat from your thumb or hot lights
will soften the adhesive and eventually the pup cover will start
to slide a bit. Just remove it and reinstall with fresh tape
every so often.

Adhesive removers are available at Home Depot that don't harm
plastics (check the label) so your pickguard should remain intact.
