| Peavey Foundation 5 Neck Issue

I picked up an older Peavey Foundation 5 a while back which I thought was just badly setup, but later found out the bow in the neck couldn't be taken out with a simple truss rod adjustment. I then took it to a local shop and the tech couldn't do anything with it (setup wise). Basically the action has to be set so high to remove the buzzing occurring near the 14th fret that's it not playable. I've been reading posts on here about neck repair and so far am thinking about doing the clamp / heating lamp approach. I picked the bass up for $100 (strung with flats and original HSC) which I thought was a steal for a US made instrument. I would like to breath some life back into this bass and would love to do the work myself (first time neck repair). The other option I'm considering is a new neck, but I don't even know where to start looking for one (aside from Peavey). Any suggestions on where to find a neck that would fit this bass or if I'm on track going with the heating lamp / clamp approach? I will try to get some pictures up later tonight.
thanks!,
