peavey foundation fretless action issues

Sign in to disble this ad
i cant seem to get my 80's foundation to a playable setup. i got it off of craigslist for 100 bones. i have tried to adjust the truss rod(tighten) to pull some off the bow out of the neck but the nut seems pretty tight and the threads are sticking up about a cm above the nut. this bass also has a neck tilt adjuster at the heal but while that does bring the strings closer to the fretboard the upper "frets" become unusable and buzz. i am pretty sure the issue is my truss rod needs tightening to pull a little more bow out of the neck. what do you guys think? i will post some pics if it helps...

I had a similar issue with a Patriot neck. I took it to a friend who is a luthier. He had me remove the nut and lube it with trumpet/trombone slide grease. I then put several washers on to act as spacers and replaced the nut. We then clamped the neck into backbow and tightened the trussrod. It was not difficult, but I would suggest getting some pro help.

I have a foundation fretless as well. You should probably remove most of the relief, then adjust the neck tilt until you get close to what you want action-wise. If the upper positions still buzz badly (mine does), you're probably looking at having the neck planed. That's what a local luthier told me I was going to have to do. If you decide to take it to someone (which I recommend), have them take a look at the depth of the nut channels. The guy I went to said he thought they weren't deep enough on the Foundation, making fingering on the lower part of the neck harder than it needs to be.

Regards,
Bob

I'd bring it in for a $10 neck adjustment from a luthier

ok so i did a little research(thanks to the search function) and have decided that my truss rod is maxed out and needs either some washers or a spacer. So i ordered some truss spacers from stu mac and will attepmt to set her up again once they arrive.

I will have a few extra spacers since they come in packs of four. i have a buddy that could probably use one of them, but do any of you TBers want a truss spacer?

PM me and we can work something out. i am thinking you mail me a self addressed and stamp envelope and i will send you a spacer back.....

I got those truss spacers in and they seem to working. of course i will know for sure in a couple days once the neck has had time to settle so i can tighten it up some more. but i just undid the truss nut all the way off slid one of these truss spacers from stew mac on and then redid the truss nut.
