Peavey Foundation Refinish

Hi all. I have a 1991 Foundation V that I love, but the red finish is hideous. I am thinking of stripping it and staining to somewhat match the maple neck. What is the best way to do this and do these things have an attractive grain to them?

Before you sand down, be aware that the wood used under solid finishes on most instruments WON'T usually look attractive. It may be a laminate of multiple pieces of wood with poorly matched grain.

That said, I suggest you have a backup plan. If the grain isn't what you hope for, refinish with a solid color.

That is what I am afraid of. I would love to go with vintage cream if that is the case..

Take your time.

The two biggest factors in doing a quality refinish are patience and preparation.

See here for in depth step-by-step instructions and materials: http://www.reranch.com/basics.htm

My stripped 92 Foundation, 3 pc. laminate. I wanted to do something around the control plate area but my router decided to do something else so I just routed a stripe and used the rest of that piece of rosewood to balance it out.

I like the results you got, Arial!
