Peavey Fury neck replacement

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, so I have this vintage Peavey Fury. It is an early model, with a single Super Ferite pick installed at an angle (it looks like a T-20, really, but head stock says Fury). The neck was converted to fretless, but the action has to be really high at the bridge for the strings not to buzz, like the neck is sitting to high in the slot, something like that. I was thinking about restoring its fretted condition. I was hoping some experts on here could direct to a good source for necks, or suggest that just getting refretted is a better option.

I do not know why the neck seems to sit so high. I do not recall the their being any shims. If I use the neck microtilt, the problem just gets worse because it brings up the butt of the neck.....suggestions?

I have an '85 Fury neck sitting here as I type this. It has a small piece of emery paper stapled to the back between the screwholes as a pivot for the microtilt.

Kooky question: Have you adjusted the truss rod?

The thing is, see, it seems you need a special tool to get in there. It is not the allen wrench requiring nut seen in most basses. Is is a convential hex nut, and I have yet to find a tool that will get in there and allow me to tweak on it. I hear that Peavey sells them, but I have yet to locate that on their website. If you have any info on getting said neck adjustment tool, I would be appreciative....

I have one. I bought it from Peavey. It was a couple of bucks. Call them. Have your serial number handy.
