Peavey T40 Truss Rod problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings all. I recently purchased a T40 in fair to good condition for a bargain price.

I'm from Kendal in the UK.

I've just received a trussrod spanner from StewMac and as there is slightly more relief in the neck than I would like/is desireable I gently tried to tighten the rod. I noticed the nut has a lot of threads showing inside it implying that it's quite loose.

It felt good but the nut isn't moving down the threaded rod and I suspect that the whole trussrod is turning inside the neck. The neck relief is unchanged.

Any ideas or tips on a way ahead? The bass is playable but not very enjoyable to play as it is.

I've had an idea and it involves superglue

Put a little mark on the rod at say 12 o'clock & then give the nut 1/4 turn. Does the rod turn?

Thanks for the reply David

It's not actually possible to see the rod itself but there is a slight blemish on the top of the threaded bit. The good news is that the rod isn't turning as I'd thought.

The nut had been wound right back to pretty much being off. I've wound it down a fair way and the neck is now moving. Great news, now to get it set up right.

Thanks for the obvious, why didn't I check that first?

Because you presumed the previous person at it didn't do something stupid

I guess we amend the old rule of thumb to be "1/4 turn a day when in the region of actual adjustment"

No prob; glad it's working. Nice bass; be sad to have it broken. Enjoy the heck out of it!!!
