| I've seen the long TR nut prob on a couple of Peaveys.
I have cut off the Peavey thin wall TR tool, not to make it shorter for your purpose, but to get it to fit on the nut better. Over time the end will "expand" and not grip the nut. The cut off end needs to be squared up and de-burred with a file/sandpaper.
If you can get the nut off, it can be cut down. It only needs to be .400" long (about 10 mm) to do it's job. Use the end of the nut that is flat which goes in the TR pocket. The bearing surface that mates with the washer in the neck MUST be square with the threads inside the nut. Round over the other end with a file so the TR wrench will slip over it. Use the other end of the cut off nut as a pattern.
You may also be able to find some 5'16 hex spacers that is threaded 10-32 at a hardware store and make a TR nut. I've done that, too. Be sure and get brass.
If you cut down the Peavey tool and can loosen the nut, I've found that a #2 Phillips screwdriver, inserted with some pressure, into the hollow of the nut will unscrew it.
FWIW...I own four TL-5s of various flavors and love them.

Edit:
You could also use a Dremel with a small burr to enlarge the space for the TR wrench if the area would be covered with the TR cover. Dangerous, I know, but....
