Pedulla thru-body bridge alteration?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Pedulla Rapture J5 and have been thinking thru-body. Has anyone every done a string thru using the stock bridge, or installed a new bridge? Need advice here.

Unless your current bridge already has holes to allow for stringing thru-body, you will likely want to look aftermarket. I am a big fan of Hipshot B-style bridges. The downside is that you will probably have to fill in the existing bridge mounting screw holes and drill new ones to match the replacement bridge.

If you plan on keeping your current bridge, you will need to make sure that the thru body string holes that you intend to drill will not interfere with the intonation adjustment or current bridge screw mounting holes. Be sure to avoid too sharpa break angle for the strings as well.

You will also need to be absolutely positive that you want to string thru the body because you will be modifying the Pedulla body to a significant degree. The holes drilled through the body are somewhat irreversible if they are done poorly. Replacement Pedulla bodies are not commonly available.

Do not attempt this mod with a hand drill of any kind unless you are a master woodworker. Try it once on a block of 2x4 and you'll see what I mean.

I strongly recommend taking the bass to a well respected luthier to perform this modification.
