Peterson iStobosoft $9.99 Tuner App for iPhone

Edited to fix typo in title: iStrobosoft

Best value in tuners... if you're already an iPhone owner.
http://www.petersontuners.com/index....ory=150&page=1

Doesn't have all the features of their higher end (and higher priced) tuners--no alternate temperaments or Buzz Feiten settings--but for 10 bucks who's complaining?

The pic on the Peterson website shows their yet to be released $12.99 cable so that you don't have to use the built in mic. However, with a $1.62 iPod AV cable plus $2 shipping and $5 for a Radio Shack RCA-1/4" adapter I was able to get the equivalent right now, albeit in an admittedly less elegant solution.

Works flawlessly and is the the most most accurate tuner that I own by far... until I spring for a Turbo Tuner, that is. But with this I'm in no hurry.

Turbo tuner ftw. Everything else ftl.

I'm curious about the accuracy of the ituner. Since it's obviously not strobe-based, is it even less accurate than the not-so-accurate strobostomp?

EDIT: 1/10th of a cent? No way!

hey c'mon now, the strobostomp is far more accurate than any regular digital tuner. and the real strobos are "strobe-based", they just do it with software rather than mechanical or analog means. the incoming pitch is mixed with a reference pitch, and the resulting interference pattern becomes the display.

it's not like the "strobe" setting on a regular tuner, which still decides pitch by counting a few cycles, averaging their length, and throwing out a result that looks like some sort of strobe pattern.

since the strobos use software to be 1/10 cent accurate, why not the iphone?

Ditto on the Peterson...

I do not own the software (have a stomp) .. they stand behind their stuff and it's always the best option out there.

+1 I use the StroboFlip and it is by far the best tuner I have ever used. The iPhone app is a brilliant idea. I'm in!

The Peterson app tracks the low B just fine. I have been using it as primary intonation tuner since it came out. The cable works great also.

It does report within .1 cent using a 440 test tone. Pretty amazing. I use it all the time now for all tuning. I don't even use the input cable. I just lay my phone on the top of the amp. I do tune to the octave harmonic on the B string, but I have to do that with a lot of tuners.

I can't believe what this world is coming to!!!!

I can't wait until people start stomping on their iPhones while trying to use this tuner.

I can't wait 'til iBass comes out, and I can just plug my phone into the house rig and not have to lug a bass!!!
