Piccolo bass question

Sign in to disble this ad
So lately I've been throwing around the idea of getting a piccolo bass. I don't really want to shell out a lot of money for this, especially if I had to go the custom route. But my local Guitar Center has this Washburn sixer that's in pretty good shape. The only problem with it, and it's quite a problem, is that there's a 'kink' in the neck. From what I understand, the truss rod is stripped so they can't really adjust it.

I was wondering if anyone thinks I'd be able to string it for piccolo bass and only worry about replacing the nut without doing much more damage to the neck. Would I have to worry about the truss rod? Maybe even replace the neck, which after doing that, the whole thing would still cost less than a high end bass.

Thanks in advance.

Get an SX, and string it up an octave. I just did this for a second piccolo and only had to make minimal adjustments. If it doesn't work out for you, you can turn around and sell it and lose maybe $50 tops.
