piccolo setup for warwick fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking for a small bit of advice here. I plan on converting my warwick corvette fretless to a piccolo tuned DGCF. I've got the whole nut thing figured (thank you just-a-nut!) But I'm not sure if I need to adjust the action or truss rod to accomodate the tuning. I'm getting the d'addario piccolo set so I think the neck should be more than sturdy to handle the tuning without adjustment but I just want to make sure.

Don't quote me on this. I just asked a similar question regarding a six string. It seems to me that if you re-string with lighter gauge strings then you have the option of setting up your bass from scratch to suit your needs. You should be able to tighten the truss rod in order to get less neck relief and also lower the saddles to get lower action. That's assuming you want to play fast, And of course don't forget the intonation to finish it off. If you want to leave it as is, then I'm thinking that would be fine also. Just set it up according to your taste. Be very careful not to tighten the truss rod too much, though. You only need just enough relief so that your strings don't buzz in the middle (near the top of the fretboard). Take this reply with a grain of salt, as I'm not that experienced to know of hidden problems.

apparently piccolo's aren't a popular subject... I can do it myself but was hoping for some sort of "expert" advice
