| Don't quote me on this. I just asked a similar question regarding a six string. It seems to me that if you re-string with lighter gauge strings then you have the option of setting up your bass from scratch to suit your needs. You should be able to tighten the truss rod in order to get less neck relief and also lower the saddles to get lower action. That's assuming you want to play fast, And of course don't forget the intonation to finish it off. If you want to leave it as is, then I'm thinking that would be fine also. Just set it up according to your taste. Be very careful not to tighten the truss rod too much, though. You only need just enough relief so that your strings don't buzz in the middle (near the top of the fretboard).
